Forrest Gump | Protagonist
Forrest Gump is the protagonist of the film, He is seen as a simple, straight-laced, innocent, persistent and extremely literal character as implied by many scenes throughout the film. Forrest is often indirectly characterized as a persistent character whose perseverance is a strong trait present in almost everything he pursues, whether it be protecting Jenny - explained by constantly trying to save Jenny from her partners and herself, Running - shown by his leg braces falling off as he slowly starts to run from the bullies and shrimping - catching mostly trash and few shrimp he continued to shrimp in Bubba's place eventually hitting a jackpot alongside Lt. Dan. Forrest is also extremely innocent reflected by the way he reacts shocked in sexual situations especially shown in the scene where Jenny takes him back to her college room, another example of his innocence is shown by the way that in the Vietnamese war he doesn’t understand the seriousness and importance of the situation quoting " We took these real long walks, and we were always looking for this guy named Charlie", this is similar to when he regularly meets American Presidents. To sum up Forrest is a lovable slightly juvenile but admirable character, from his goofy antics and misunderstandings to his more serious dramatic conversations, ideals and storytelling. |
"NOW YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE ME IF I TOLD YOU, BUT I COULD RUN LIKE THE WIND BLOWS. FROM THAT DAY ON, IF I WAS GOING SOMEWHERE, I WAS RUNNING!" "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get" "COONS? WELL RACCOONS TRIED TO GET IN OUR BACK PORCH, MOMMA JUST CHASE 'EM OFF WITH A BROOM!" |
